Red Devils show resilience in victory over Zainesville
After tying for 2nd place in the city league south, and going 13-6 overall,
some didn't know what Marion-Franklin team we would see. The team that
could apply pressure on the defensive side and rain from the outside and
inside on offense. Or, that team that looks lost at times, and seems to only
play hard when they are behind on the score board.
The first quarter was about even. Zainesville missed a few three pointers
that would of sparked their crowd. But Marion-Franklin kept their composure
and handled the Zainesville pressure and crowd well. Zainesviile's 6'6" Joe
Prati led his team with 6 first quarter points, and as DeJaun "Onion"
McGaughy chipped in 6 for the Red Devils. After one, the score was 14-11,
MF. Zainesville would get the upper hand in the second quarter outscoring
the Red Devils 18 to 12. At the half, it was 29 to 26, Blue Devils.
The Red Devils really got it going in the third quarter. They overcame
their three point half time deficit by scoring 16 points, while holding
Zainesville to only 9. Marion-Franklin were sparked by their defense, McCoy
and McGaughy. Marion-Franklin played like a team on a mission in the
fourth, closing out the Blue Devils and sending them home with a 59-50
victory. Zainesville was led by Joe Prati and Brandon Mills with 14 points.
The Red Devils were led by Dejaun "Onion" McGaughy with 16 points,
including three 3 pointers. Marion-Franklin will now await the winner Newark
and Marysville, for a Friday Night showdown.
