Northland Vikings Manhandle Watkins Memorial
In a rematch from last years district quarterfinals, would Watkins Memorial
fair any better against Northland in this years play-off battle?
Watkins came out in the first quarter with the same game strategy as they
did in last years game. To hold the ball for as long as possible and shoot
when they have an open shot. It worked to some degree as they kept it
close through one, 12 to 8, Northland. But keeping it close didn't last long.
Northland came out with an half-court trap defense, that disrupted what
Watkins Memorial wanted to do, causing frequent turnovers. The Vikings
capitalized on them, and were lead by the captain Jared Sullinger who
scored 11 on the first half. At the half, the score was 34 to 17, NHS.
The third quarter was not kind to the Warriors either, as they only managed
to score 4 points. When that happens against a team like Northland, you
probably won't be the victor at games end. The Vikings scored 17 points in
the third stanza led by J.D. Weatherspoon with 9. Northland was just too
much, as predicted, with a 70-25 victory. Northland moves onto the second
round awaiting the winner of Dublin Jerome and Central Crossing. The
Vikings were led by J.D. Weatherspoon with 21 points, and Jared Sullinger
with 17. Cory Christman and Corey Weisenstein led the Warriors with 5
points each.
