Eastmoor vs DeSales 3/13/2009

Eastmoor gets derailed in District Championship
For the 3rd time in consecutive OHSAA District championships, St. Francis DeSales squared off
against the Eastmoor Warriors. DeSales won in 2007, and Eastmoor won in 2008. Who would
win in 2009?
Nick Kellogg led the Stallions in the first period, as he wanted to avenge last years loss and his
poor performance. Eastmoor could not get a shot to fall early on, and on defense they did not
rebound well, not a good way to start off in the district championship. On the other hand,
DeSales had the hot hand and led after one, 15 to 6. In the second quarter, DeSales continued
to play solid defense, had a good flow on offense, and just seemed to want it more than the
Warriors. Eastmoor was able to score 15 points, but when you allow the opposing team to score
28 in one quarter, that can kill your will to fight. At the half, it was 43 to 21, DeSales.
The onslaught continued in the second half. This was a game that was not meant to be for
Eastmoor. They didn't lack hustle, and they didn't give up, which was probably the only upside
to this contest. They scored only 5 points in the third alone. Nick Kellogg scored 8 of his game
high 30 in the quarter. The Warriors could not put a body on forward Ike Ariguzo, as he pulled
down nearly 20 rebounds. Going into the fourth it was 57 to 26, Stallions. EA finally started to
knock down a few three's in the fourth, but by then, the game was already decided. The Final,
72 to 46. DeSales avenged their loss from 2008. Good season for the Warriors, though I am
sure this is not how they wanted to go out. DeSales will take on the winner of the Libbey/Elida
winner at Bowling Green State University next Thursday
